Echoes of Hypnotic Trances

My voice fed back to me today during a phone hypnosis session today.  At first I thought it would be irritating.  Echo feedback during a phone call is normally annoying.   I’m not sure what caused it.  He tried with a head set and we couldn’t hear each other.  He hung up so he could dial again. Still it wouldn’t work with his headset.  And still the echo.  This was as good as it was going to get.

But I swiftly realised that I was getting the benefit of hearing my voice in a certain way.  I wonder if he was hearing it that way too.  It didn’t sound the way my voice normally sounds to me, and which I don’t like.  It had a reverberating echo effect, one of the effects I can sometimes get when I’m doing audio editing.  It was quite cool.  And relaxing.  It sounded like a version of me was deep down inside a warm bottomless cave … just out of reach, but perfectly audible.  This was the right kind of echo.

And so the session progressed. No arousal.  Just deepening, intense relaxation, and lots of positive heart warming suggestions.  A real feel good kind of hypnosis trance session.

It came as no surprise to me, as his time drew to an end and I counted him back to full awareness, and his first words, after a few seconds silence, was “Wow!”.

Maybe he did hear it with the echo effect just as I had.   Or maybe it was just the words and how they made him feel.
